A Friend Like You Will Never Turn Me Away.
A Friend Like You Will Be There For Me Everyday.
A Friend Like You Will Hold Me When I Am Feeling Sad.
A Friend Like You Will Rejoice For Me When I Am Feeling Glad.
A Friend Like You Always Knows What To Say And How To Put It Gently, To Make The Pain Go Away.

Old Dogs

Friendship Poems Comments Off

Waiting at the window sill,
watcher of the world;
gleeful squeals, the postman yields,
children race the walk.

Brazen birds abandon skies
to hop a leafy lawn,
playful squirrels scramble high
up trees where they belong.

Younger days would not abide
scoundrels such as these
to carry-on where I preside
without a chase from me.

Now reluctant bones repose,
eyes at restful view,
fix the node that bends the road
for a glimpse of you.

I replay a misty haze
of running in the yard;
you tossed the ball to play,
I would fetch ’till dark.

Rainy nights by the fire,
dancing shadows theme
and with ticking clocks conspired
to lure us into dreams.

Time has tied the years we spend,
mine unfairly few,
here awaits a faithful friend
wrapped in twilight’s hue.

I will fiercely hold these days
’til last breath is drawn
and only then release my watch
to wait for you beyond.

Forever friend
reach out to me when you feel despair
and when your burdens are too many
the load I will gladly share
and when your heart grows weary
and dark clouds cover you
My friend I will stay beside you until the
sun shines through.
Forever friend,
we have shared so much
a special love we have come to know
we have laughed and cried together and
helped each other in love to grow
Forever friend
within my heart a special place
for you is there
because you are my forever friend and
I will always care.

The song that once was in my heart
Has gone away today
The flowers were placed in rare array
Upon my best friend’s grave
I tried to just remember all the moments

That we shared
Good times outweighed the the bad times
We were the perfect pair
She would start a sentence
And I finished it for her

Our thinking was together
I always knew the words
Now my best friend can talk to Jesus
I’ll end that sentence too
For tomorrow comes real often
And your work on earth is through.

Best friends until the end
We promised each other everyday
Looking into her brown eyes as we shook on it
We giggled and continued playing
Thinking we’d always have each other
Sharing stories at sleepovers

Talking and talking
Her voice high and quiet
Merging with my louder and faster one
Filling the air with the sound of two girls who each other’s secrets
Yet will never tell

Eating boxes and boxes of popsicles
The icy sweet treats giving us brain freezes
Turning our lips blue and green
Making up games and languages only we could understand
Sometimes we didn’t need words

One look and I’d know what she was thinking
Celebrating birthdays, holidays
And our lives together
We were more than sisters
We were twins

Each knowing the other person inside out
We spent every moment together
Laughing and having a good time
Creating a scrapbook that could be kept forever
But

Now you’re miles and miles away
Birthdays are forgotten
Months go by without a call
We’re too busy living our lives alone
Trying to find new best friends

Someone who can fill the empty position
Sharing our jokes and games
Only to find them not as funny as we remembered
‘Oh, I’ll call tomorrow’

But we use the same excuse when tomorrow comes
Our memories are slowly disappearing
Yet we still cling onto them
Hurrying forward to catch the last threads
Of the tapestry that was once our

Sunlight plays with
The ripples on the lake.
Sunscreen coats me,
Shields me from the sun.

The musty, pent up smell
Of past summers emanates from
Banana life jackets.
Gentle buzzing crawls
Into my ears carried by the whisper of the wind.
Waves lap onto the shore,
Jostling the boat, giving it a hard time.

The motor roars to life
Spewing roiling clouds into the calm.
Majestically the boat cuts
Through the water,
Rolling waves left behind form it’s cape.
Waters sprays on either side
Forming mini rainbows
That follows us like a multicolored entourage.

All the while the tube is being blown up,
Looking like a beached whale on top of green ropy sand.
The slightly cool water
Cradles me as I swim out to the now free whale.

My best friend Kristin is there with me
We’re small enough to both be on the tube,
As long as we keep our balance.
We are now flying, gliding, and skidding,
On waves that don’t look that friendly anymore.

I feel myself slipping, being ripped from the tube,
Kristin is the first to go,
Then me.
The water which looked like it would swallow me whole,
Lets me float easily, without even a bump on the way.
Laugher circles me like birds
And I swim to the tube for another go.

If I could go back and change the world, I would. If I could of taken you away from that time and place, I would I’d give anything to turn back the hands of time. Anything in the world ; you name it, my voice, music, anything but you guys-I would. I can feel my heart breaking and it’s not even whole. You’ve got a piece and so does he; my heart has never belonged to just me. You’re lungs and livers can be replaced. But your lives? Think of what’s at stake. I don’t know what I’d do without all of you. I couldn’t breathe, I couldn’t smile.

Each and every one of you make it worthwhile. But my words and actions never had bearing. Not until now, God only knows what trouble you’re in. I honestly don’t know what to do. I almost lost all of you. You guys aren’t just my friends, you’re my blood. Life feels like a mind-teaser; only it doesn’t give you all the clues. The truth sets you free, that’s what they say. Just be honest, let your heart lead the way.

I know it wasn’t you who started that fire. Don’t give any proof to show you’re a liar. That extra time you spent fighting the flames; made you my heroes. Breathing in all that smoke and getting burned; calling 911 to spread the word. You fought for your lives and the lives of others. Just remember that no matter what anyone says; you made a difference, be it slight. I know you have it in you to change your lives.

Remember that when you wanna skip school; have a party or try to be cool. There are consequences as you saw today. Your burns will heal, But your memory will remain. Your futures lie in you, make the right decision.

The snow fell, leaving a halo of white upon your head,
and that’s when I said,
"Can I call you Angel?"
You looked at me with surprise,
but I could see it in your eyes,
and I knew.

As you sang silent night,
your beautiful voice put me at ease,
and I asked please,
"Can I call you Angel?"
A smile came to your face with serenity and grace,
but you said not a word.

In my darkest hours you held my hand,
never leaving my side, and I said, while I cried,
"Can I call you Angel? "
You then began to wipe the tears away
and erase all the gray in my life.

You led me down a path of gold,
telling me of the creator above,
and again I asked with a greater love,
"Can I call you Angel?"
You never answered my plea,
so I fell to my knee in prayer.

As I opened my eyes, I could see you before me;
Your wings spread and a golden halo upon your head
and one last time I said,
"Josslyn, can I call you Angel?"
